Beginning 8/15/20 Canvas will only support TLS (Transfer Layer Security) version 1.2 or higher.
What is TLS?
In a nutshell, TLS is a protocol that provides secure communication over the internet. Most all of the software that United uses to deliver online learning now requires you to have TLS version 1.2 enabled in your browser. Previous TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 will no longer be supported. For more information about TLS see What is TLS?
How do I know if I have TLS version 1.2?
Use this link to test your browser: TSL Test. Once the page completes, scroll down to the Protocol Features section. Look for Yes to the right of TLS 1.2. If you see No, you are not 1.2 compliant.
Note: Apple Safari version 7 or greater has TLS 1.2 automatically enabled.
What do you need to do?
If you are already using TLS 1.2, you will not need to do anything. If your browser is using TLS 1.0 or 1.1, update your browser. Current versions of browsers will come with TLS version 1.2 enabled.
You can run the TLS Test after updating your browser to make sure you are all set.
If you need to manually enable TLS 1.2 on your browser, follow these instructions: Enabling TLS 1.2 on web browsers.
